Effectuation is a logic of thinking, discovered through scientific research, used by expert entrepreneurs to build successful ventures. It is being used in this course because it informs us about what it really takes to be a successful entrepreneur. When most people think about entrepreneurship and entrepreneurs, they think of people like Bill Gates of Microsoft, Mark Zuckerberg of Facebook, or Steve Jobs of Apple. The reality is that the perceptions we have of what an entrepreneur actually is are misguided. The three people I just mentioned are like the lottery winners of entrepreneurship, in recent times. Using people like this as an example of what an entrepreneur is would be a mistake. It would be like teaching someone about financial literacy and responsibility by pointing to lottery winners.
The reality is that research shows us that there exist several common myths related to entrepreneurship, and expert entrepreneurs act in such a way that disproves these myths.
