Tips for Success in this Course
Here's to success...
Please review: An Online Student's Manual for Success.
Must have access to a computer and internet connection
HCC provides Microsoft 365 free to students. Please use your Net ID to access the Student Intranet. To install Microsoft Office Applications on your personal device, scroll down and click the box titled Install Microsoft Apps on Your Computer. To access a specific Microsoft program and run it directly from the cloud, without installing, click the box titled Microsoft 365.
Must possess minimum technical skills
You should be able to type your assignments using Microsoft applications. You should be able to open files, save files, upload files as an attachment, open an email, send an email, open and work within a browser (e.g. Chrome, Firefox, etc.), and conduct a web search. (NOTE: Internet Explorer is not recommended for accessing Canvas.)
Read!
You must carefully read the course materials, textbook, and assignment instructions. Don't skim!
Participate in the discussion activities
Discussions are an important part of this course. Sharing your ideas, observations, and experiences with your peers, and being open to their perspectives, helps you learn and see things in new ways.
Meet the assignment deadlines
Missing assignments or missing a module means you fall behind. Once you fall behind in an online course, it becomes very difficult to catch up!
Orientation Assignments
When finished with the "Thomas" video, you are ready to begin the orientation assignments. Please remember that all four orientation assignments must be completed to avoid being withdrawn from the course.
