Course Dates

  • Course Begin and End Dates: January 13 - May 10
  • Spring Break: March 16 - 22
  • Fully online (no class meetings

Other Important Stuff:

WN, Drop, and Withdrawal

  • You must complete the course orientation activities by the due date to avoid being withdrawn by your instructor for non-attendance (WN grade).  Please understand that all instructors at HCC are required to issue a WN grade to students who do not attend class and complete required assignments by a specified date.  Distance learning students must complete course orientation activities to prove their attendance.

  • The last day to drop and receive a refund is January 17, 2020Students are responsible for initiating and completing the drop/add process.

  • The last day to withdraw from the course and receive a grade of W is March 28, 2020. Please remember that withdrawing from the course may affect your athletic eligibility, financial aid, veterans’ benefits, and benefits received from other agencies. Contact me or an academic advisor before you make the decision to withdraw.  

  • If you do not officially withdraw from the course by the deadline date, then I MUST assign you a letter grade for the course. This could negatively impact your grade point average. If you must stop participating in this course, please contact me or an academic advisor about your options, which may include withdrawal by the deadline. Other options could include a late drop for medical reasons, an “Incomplete” grade, obtaining support service assistance to get you back on track, and more.

Attendance 

Attendance is required online just as it is in a traditional classroom. You will need to access the course at least three times during each week to attend to course materials and assignments, and to interact with class mates and with me.

Communication with your Instructor

Email is the primary form of communication. Use the Inbox link provided in Canvas to contact me. I encourage you to contact me with questions, concerns, feedback, or other situations that may require my involvement. I will post announcements 2 - 3 times per week. These announcements contain important information and reminders, so be on the lookout!

Late Assignments 

All assignments have a posted due date. The due dates for this course are always Sunday by midnight. Please do not miss assigned due dates or you run the risk of receiving a score of 0 for those assignments. 

Instructor Response Time 

I log into our course a minimum of twice per day Monday - Friday, and once per day on Saturday and Sunday.  Email questions sent via the Inbox will receive a response within 24-hours. All graded items will be graded and feedback provided within 48-hours of the due date.

Communication with Class Mates

There are seven required discussion forums in this course. You are required to post an original response. In addition, you must respond to a minimum of two peers in each forum. The peer responses must make a contribution to further the conversation. Please view the discussion rubric Download discussion rubric for more details. 

Academic Honesty Policy 

I know this is understood, but it is expected that you will do your own, original work. Academic misconduct includes engaging in all forms of cheating, fabricating, and plagiarism. Academic misconduct is subject to disciplinary measures as enforced by the instructor and the College. In this course, academic misconduct results in a 0 for the course assignment. Depending on the nature and/or number of instances, it is possible that the misconduct will be referred to the Dean for further action. Etiquette Policy 

We will all work together closely in this class. All of us will interact and communicate in a respectful manner including using appropriate language, showing respect to peers, and writing at a college level that includes proper spelling, grammar, and punctuation. Disagreement should be brought to the attention of the class in a respectful manner. In other words, let's all be nice to each other and do our best work!
